Cassandra LaRae-Perez joined the Gravel & Shea corporate team in February as Special Counsel. Cassandra brings a comprehensive food law practice with a focus on Vermont food producers. In collaboration with Gravel & Shea’s full-service team, she will provide guidance on the complete suite of legal needs—from general business issues like labor and employment questions, litigation, and real estate to topics specific to the food industry, such as FDA or USDA registration and Vermont food processing licensure, product recalls and reporting, and manufacturing practice requirements.
“I am excited to develop this niche practice with Gravel & Shea,” said Cassandra. “To combine my passion for wine and food, beer, ciders, cheese and all the wonderful edible and drinkable products our state produces with the practice of law and to participate in the support and growth of the enterprises in one of Vermont’s signature industries is an extraordinary opportunity.”
A graduate of U.C. San Diego and Boston University School of Law, in addition to studies at universities in England, the Netherlands and France, Cassandra brings more than thirteen years’ experience in civil litigation and regulatory compliance. She is also a student of wine and holds several qualifications from the Wine Spirit and Education Trust as well as the Wine Scholars Guild. Prior to joining Gravel & Shea, Cassandra represented clients at a prominent regional law firm. She is also a trained mediator and had years of experience in government relations representing clients before the Vermont Legislature and a range of government departments, agencies and commissions.
“Gravel & Shea is fortunate to have Cassandra joining our team. She brings a wealth of experience in litigation, compliance and regulatory work,” said Shareholder Navah Spero. “Cassandra has a natural ability to connect with clients, and we look forward to working with her to build a specialized practice that will provide excellent service to food producers throughout New England, addressing all of their needs within one law firm.”
Shareholder William Mason said, “Cassandra’s expertise will benefit our existing clients, and we welcome the opportunity to provide tailored guidance to local businesses in the specialty food market.”
