The Vermont Cannabis Control Board (the CCB) recently announced that new outdoor and mixed (indoor and outdoor) cannabis cultivation licenses will now be reviewed on a seasonal basis only. All new license applications for the upcoming growing season must be submitted to the CCB by 4:30 p.m. ET on Friday, April 28, 2023. The limitation does not apply to indoor only cultivator licenses or renewal of existing outdoor and mixed cultivators’. The licensing period for outdoor and mixed cultivators will reopen on December 1, 2023.
Vermont law and regulations set rigorous guidelines for obtaining cannabis cultivator licenses as well as for cannabis retail licenses, cannabis manufacturing licenses, and all types of cannabis business establishment licenses. Businesses planning to seek licenses to operate in the Vermont adult use cannabis market should begin the process early, as many elements, such as background checks and obtaining banking and insurance, can take time.
After obtaining a cannabis cultivator license, there are other CCB registration and filing requirements that apply, such as product registration and inventory tracking. Be sure to learn about all of your legal obligations before launching operations.
